- On any given day over 7,500 people in Toronto are experiencing homelessness.
- For every 10,000 people in Toronto, near 30 experience homelessness.
- In 2018, nearly half of Toronto’s homeless population reported being homeless for over 6 months.
- Over 30% of Toronto’s homeless live with mental health issues, and over 25% live with addiction.
- 94% of those experiencing homelessness in Toronto want permanent housing.
- 80% of those living outdoors need affordable housing options.
- In the past 10 years, the average market rent for a one-bedroom has increased by 33%. In that same time, Ontario Works shelter benefits have increased only 10%.
- 4434 individuals per night frequent shelters, temporary housing or motel programs with no permanent housing options.
- 45% of the homeless population have mental or physical disabilities.
- 15% of elderly single individuals live in poverty. (Canada’s basic standard of living is calculated at $18,000 per year for single people.)
- 4 million people in Canada experience food insecurity every year.

- In 2021 -216 homeless individuals died on the streets of Toronto
- 132 of the 216 who died lived in local shelters
- March 2022 – 4000 homeless individuals stayed in 3000 rooms at 29 different Hotels
- Last year the city spent 13 million on hotels for homeless individuals for hotel costs for admin, fees and hotel expenses, money that could have provided 52,000 rooms for homeless individuals
- 40 homeless persons per night are turned away from Shelters due to incapability
- 216 unhoused homeless individuals died on the streets in 2021
