February was the start of the Winter Survival Kit distribution- winter kits that included sleeping bags, blankets, food, socks, hats, gloves, and water were handed out. We were able to partner with the Engage and Change Program to get out over 50 winter ktis during alot of the extreme cold alert days and nights in downtown Toronto.

The Cold lasted so long this year that we often ran out of supplies and the need always far exceeded the demand. We also had alot of clothing and blankets which we distributed weekly to the homeless. Having received over 100 winter coats we handed them out for many months, and often just in the nick of time, for many of the homeless had few coverings and extra coats or blankets by the end of February.

Already within 30 days of the extreme weather many shelters and local city run housing programs where at capacity and were filling up quickly. Many of Toronto’s homeless need atleast 4 to 5 sleeping bags a month and two or three sets of dry clothing a week to survive the days ahead.

With volunteer help we hit the streets with many boxes and bags of donated clothing, week in and week out trying to help many in need. As well everytime we went out we always offered food cards in 5 dollars amounts and 10 if they needed it for the homeless to get a meal at a local restaurant.

By the end of February most of those who lived outside knew us by name and when they saw us coming they would wave or come running for food or warm clothing and blankets. To God be the Glory!!!
