Its January and we are now heading out to operate our Winter Outreach Ministry. It has has been a huge winter so far with so many great donations of clothing. We had more than 2500lbs come in since early 2015, with coats, hats, gloves, socks, shoes, winter tops, bottoms, and along with that the Winter Kits and sleeping bags donated by The Bargains group here in Toronto.
Having been out on the streets just the other day handing our clothing, we saw so many new and additional homeless now calling the streets home. All the usual spots that the homeless hang out there usually are 3 to 4 people huddling and trying to stay warm. But since 2014 the amount of homeless living right outside has indeed doubled. This is a sad statistic to see and we are always looking to help those in distress wherever we can. But with the numbers at an all time high I must admit it has been very hard to keep up with all the demand.
Yesterday we picked up the 20 winter kits and 20 sleeping bags from the Bargains group and from the amount of people on the streets from our trip down yesterday I think we’ll hand those in in ten minutes in one place.
Hopefully we can purchase additional items to help the homeless when the winter continues and the days get longer and help is hard to come by. Our prayer is that funding comes in and we can help in many diffferent ways.
