Its been a really tough Spring for Toronto’s homeless. With the extreme cold and now suddenly the extreme heat all in one month. To make things worse we have a shelter crisis on hand. There are 10-20 Refugees entering our city borders daily seeking asylum. But our shelter system here in Toronto is operating at Capacity and doesn’t have room enough for additional persons.
Because of the influx of newcomers the Toronto shelter system is vastly overcrowded and needs more funds and support if it is to sustain the continued growth that is happening.
Currently we are heading into our water distribution season where we hit the streets and hand out ice cold water to the homeless. Already we have handed out water to those who have little or no access to running water. Having gone out to the busier areas downtown Toronto we have seen a confirmation of the increased number of people that are sitting downtown living outside on the streets with little but the clothing on their backs.
We intend to assist the homeless of Toronto as much as we can to help many through another brutally hot and humid summer season with summer wear, ice cold water, food cards and the Gospel message giving hope to those with out it.
